Community Development
Our passion is seeing healthy families. Sigay Kauyagan has a presence in a number of communities throughout Southern Mindanao. We have been involved in teaching the basics of literacy to under-educated and pre-literate women from young mothers to the elderly. This four-step course begins with the alphabet and basic writing skills and ends with cottage industry development with sewing and household farming techniques. Sigay Kauyagan holds Mommy and Me classes for preschool children and their mothers, in order to allow mothers who are pre-literate to begin the process of being passive learners with their young children. In addition, jewelry making, sewing using recycled materials, ethnic crafts, soap making, cooking, slipper making and other livelihood projects are integrated into women’s programs, literacy classes, and community gatherings. Our literacy classes teach adult students how to read allowing their minds and hearts find freedom and hope.
Every parent is concerned with the education of their children. Sigay Kauyagan provides after-school tutorials where elementary and high school youth are provided the basics that give them a step up to prepare them for the local school. Each summer Sigay Kauyagan provides community based day-camps for thousands of youth where stories, games, drama, and crafts support healthy family values.
Sigay Kauyagan is committed to developing healthy families that seek to support and improve their own communities.
